Are you a community gardener, but you don’t feel a sense of community? Why not start a communal vegetable plot to grow food for others?
Monarch Garden, an allotment garden in Humboldt Park, launched a produce giveaway in their garden last summer. The gardeners dedicated two plots, one vegetable and one herb, for donation.
Throughout the season, neighbors are invited to come to the garden during a set time and take home produce for free. Produce is harvested from the communal plots and also gleaned from individual plots.
Produce giveaways bring community members together and allow more people to see where their food comes from.
