Winter has returned with a snowy vengeance!

This is a friendly reminder about the importance of winter sidewalk maintenance around the garden. Snowy sidewalks create safety concerns and could result in city fines.

5-Foot Path

Chicago’s Sidewalk Snow Removal Ordinance requires that residents clear a 5-foot pathway within 12 hours of snowfall.

Please help maintain a safe and accessible pathway around your garden. We suggest garden groups implement one or more of the following strategies:

  • Organize a group shoveling effort to make sure sidewalks are cleared.
  • Ask a neighbor to assist with clearing sidewalks.
  • Request a SnowCorps volunteer.
