About the garden: The Ann Sather Garden was developed in 2007 by 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney in honor of his mother Ann Sather. He acquired the 3932 sq foot odd shaped parcel along the El tracks in 2006 and paid for its transformation into a landscaped garden complete with ornamental trees and shrubs, stone paving and seating walls, a pergola, wrought iron gate and sprinkler system. For more than a decade he has made the space available to residents for everything from quiet contemplation to birthday celebrations. Since 2009 the garden has also hosted a rotating succession of public artworks through the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, an organization whose mission is to bring art to where people live their lives, without requiring them to come to a museum. Tunney has offered to donate the garden to NeighborSpace and the adjacent Kelly Park Advisory Council has agreed to become the Community Organization Partners. They are a group of concerned citizens dedicated to the continued improvement and maintenance of Kelly Park and see this as a natural extension of their community work. The Kelly Park Advisory Council meets the second Thursday of every month at the Gill Park field house at 825 W. Sheridan Rd.
