About the Garden: In 1998, the South Troy Block Club saw an opportunity to create a space that would serve as an example of what was possible with community support. They wanted to show how coming together as a community could improve standards and quality of life. Troy Community Garden would serve as that peaceful, green-space for years to come.

In 2007, their vision and dedication was recognized by Neighborhood Housing Association of Chicago who awarded Troy Community Garden the Neighborhood Leadership Award “in recognition of outstanding leadership in rebuilding Chicago’s neighborhoods.”

Since then, Troy Community Garden remains under the care of one of the original garden leaders, Queen Warship. Under her watchful eye, flowers and veggies stay watered; and not a visitor enters the garden without her seeing them from her post by her window. Various flowers, strawberries, vegetables, and herbs fill the shared beds continuing the original vision of a peaceful green space on the block.
