Welcome to the NeighborSpace Resource Area
In this section, you will find great ideas and resources for engaging more local support for your community garden or park. You’ll also find terrific research on the many ways community gardens impact the quality of life for residents, as well as articles, press releases and other news about the important work NeighborSpace is doing in Chicago.
- Community Support: In this section, you will find ways to gain more local support for your garden. This section has links to city officials, local non-profit organizations, and other groups you may find are interested in helping or learning about your garden efforts
- Aldermanic Ward Office: Here is a list of wards, alderman and their contact information. Your alderman supports the work of NeighborSpace and your garden in particular and can be an excellent resource for your garden.
- Ward Superintendent: The ward superintendent is in charge of streets and sanitation work in your ward. They also know about NeighborSpace’s work, your garden and are committed to supporting both.
- New Communities Program: The New Communities Program (NCP) is a planning and development program underway in 12 Chicago neighborhoods. NCP lead agencies, charged with creating and executing a quality of life plan for the neighborhood, can be excellent resources for gardens and gardening groups
- Local Community Organizations: Here you will find organizations in your neighborhood that can provide resources and volunteers for your garden
- Local Religious Organizations: Great source for volunteers and other support!
- Asset Maps: (This area is under construction) This are lists some organizations in your area that are interested in helping your garden, as collected by NeighborSpace staff
- Impacts from Community Gardens: Find out more about how community gardens provide numerous favorable impacts. Use this information when approaching elected officials, City departments, and potential funders to support your efforts.
