Partners and Links to Other Sites

The largest most important "partner" in these efforts is the over 300 Garden Leaders, staff from Community Organizational Partners, and volunteers that create and maintain a diversity of open spaces on an on-going basis  -  season after season and year after year. Indeed, these partners are often leaders for NeighborSpace  -  supplying important field experience, feedback, and insights about the changing needs of community managed open spaces in Chicago.

Garden in the cityThese individuals and local organizations are the life-blood for these sites, providing local leadership, passion for the site's preservation, labor, materials and other resources to ensure the continued viability of the gardens and parks that currently make up the NeighborSpace "community."

Just as important to the success of NeighborSpace is the continued partnership with the three founding governmental agencies, the City of Chicago, Chicago Park District, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, as well as with organizations that share our commitment to open space and provide resources and expertise to the many community managed parks and gardens throughout Chicago: Openlands, Greencorps Chicago, and Chicago Botanic Garden, and Friends of the Chicago River, to name a few.

On the national front, NeighborSpace is a Sponsor Member of the Land Trust Alliance, a network of the private land conservation movement, promoting voluntary land conservation across the country to protect important open spaces. Through this membership NeighborSpace is able to participate in the Conserve-A-Nation® Insurance Program and extend general liability insurance to sites owned or leased by NeighborSpace.
