About the Garden:  In 2015 Uptown residents approached the Peterson Garden Project (PGP) to find a location for a community vegetable allotment garden. In June of 2017 46th Ward Alderman Cappelman approached PGP with the proposed site at 4525 N Kenmore Avenue. The land is a public right of way that has been closed off to traffic for many years.

The community garden opened in August of 2018 and has two sections. In the north there are 116 raised beds with a focus on organic vegetable gardening. On the southern tip is a small, open perennial garden with a path, seating, shade tree, bike parking and peace pole. At the start of 2023, a group of previous gardeners took over day-to-day operation of the garden to keep the garden open.
